Abstract of my thesis(M.A).

Literature in general and poetry in specific are two major and highly influential elements in and over the structure of our ancient culture that get much credit as valuable sources for social studies. Poetic role, especially by the beginning of Constitution Revolution in Iran in 1906, reaches to a cutting edge and undergoes radical changes. Social themes get remarkable importance and poets extensively appeal to the masses and stop practicing aristocratic literature. Their poetry commits to convey the message of revolution, puts striking impact on its advancement, and is inspired by it in turn. Poets in their poetry attend to new thematic values of their own society like patriotism, liberty, establishment of parliamentary act, and social justice and avoid praising kings through panegyric poetry.

War literature and poetry is one of the sub-branches of social poetry to which poets over a span of 73 years between the out set of Constitution revolution and the occurrence of Islamic Revolution in 1979 paid much attention. It was especially due to the fact that in this interval time, two world wars respectively world war, I (1914 – 1918) and world war, II (1939 -1945) took place and Iran unwillingly was indulged in them and suffered its subsequent calamities. However, this attention during the First World War was of greater sensitivity because the people had already gained victory in their revolution and thus, had developed in themselves a spirit of highly anti - absolutism and anti – foreign national intruder.

The fact that war is one of the most effecting social phenomena in any human society or to put it in other words it creates the history, well confirms the relevance of this study.

The present research tries firstly, to zero in on understanding the social effects of war and its problems in Iran in works of war poetry and to investigate the role of poets and their thoughts related to society, and secondly, to deal with the sociology of war poetry between the above mentioned revolutions.
